Better than you think October 31, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I guess I have a modern DVD player...the audio is not high def but it is Dolby enhanced. The picture is clear and the colors are rich, one of the many original virtues of the Twin Peaks show. Other features are trailers, chapter selection and other goodies.
If you only want the pilot episode buy this since it is only otherwise available as part of the new &70.00 "Gold Box" edition that is now out.
Horrible Audio - Wait for a Better Version on DVD July 17, 2007 I am a huge fan of Twin Peaks, but this DVD is terrible. The audio is out of sinc with the film, i.e., you hear them talk, then see their lips move. It was painful to watch. Even though I think the Twin Peaks pilot is one of the best things ever to have appeared on U.S. television, I have only watched this DVD ONCE because the sound is so bad. There is talk of a "definitive" version of Twin Peaks coming out in October 2007. Hopefully it will include a remastered version of the pilot. If it doesn't, buy the UK version of the first season, which includes the pilot, unlike the US version. But whatever you do, don't buy this.
A necessity July 8, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The only way to have the original, broadcast pilot is to find it as an import. This import fits the bill. There's no special features, and the English subtitles lack proper punctuation. That being said, this is the pilot episode to one of the best shows ever to grace the small screen.
Pilot episode deserves 5 stars, 2 star audio mix is horrible April 22, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Until the pilot gets an offical release in the United States, this is the best you can do (unless you purchase the overseas edition). Created as a region 0 disc (it'll play anywhere)this was manufactured in China and while the picture quality is pretty good, the 5.1 audio mix sounds like an amateur created it--it's metallic sounding and sounds like you're listening to the show in a tunnel. If you must have the pilot now (vs. waiting for Paramount to finally release it now that ALL the rights issues have been resolved. Although it isn't on the release list yet, supposedly it will hit the market at the end of this year. We'll see), I would suggest finding some place to rent vs. buy or get it inexpensely.
FYI, this is a bare bones release with some really bad looking trailers (they look like they were pulled from VHS)and two very brief biographies/credits for Joan Chen and Kyle MacLachlan. I'd suggest renting (and burning a copy)if you can find it vs. buying this disc vs. being out of pocket for $45.00. The best thing to do is to either pay for a foreign edition or wait for the offical U.S. release.
its not the "only way" to get the pilot episode February 7, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
