Desert Paradise October 28, 2008 The Premier Classic DVD Collection version of "Paradise" lasts for 90 minutes and has no extras. Leonard Maltin writes it is a 100 minute movie; IMDB says 100 minutes ordinarily but only 90 for the USA. There are optional Korean subtitles and no extras. The DVD cover is a mix of English and Korean and has stills from actions not in this version, including a wedding scene. The picture and sound are good. There is some controversial blurring of the genitals of the David McBride/Willie Aames character. I can't compare this version to others.
There are natural comparisons to "The Blue Lagoon", with an attractive young couple living undressed and unmissed out in the middle of nowhere. In "The Blue Lagoon" the protagonists are shown figuring out how to get along in the wild and having to decide how much effort to make to escape. In "Paradise" the protagonists seem content to remain where they are and move only when The Jackal chases them out. There is no time spent on how to find food or how worrying about how to get home. "Paradise" is a much faster paced movie but raises fewer questions and is not as well acted.
I speculate that for those who are looking primarily at the bodies, those looking at the women will prefer "Paradise" (Phoebe Cates) and those looking at the men will prefer "The Blue Lagoon" (Christopher Atkins).
"Paradise" is entertaining fluff with superior eye-candy.
Not That Great October 28, 2008 Can't give this one more that 2 stars, because the nude scenes just weren't that good. Maybe it was the quality of the dvd, which was poor, or the way they were shot. Whatever, the story was dumb, acting was bad, and since the main reason for buying the disk was for Phoebe Cates nude scenes, it wasn't worth it. Better quality would have added a least one star.
I first learned to abuse fast forward and rewind of our betamax because of this movie! August 27, 2008 Definitely better than Blue Lagoon just by the mention of Phoebe Cates. I owe the start of my puberty to the Betamax tape of this movie. I feel it's produced in Saudi Arabia, and Phoebe Cates was tricked to go nude, because she was never as hot in anywhere of later flicks that she did. She's even sexier here than in Fast Times.
"A Exciting Tale of Young Love" June 30, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am a big Phoebe Cates fan.I have seen and enjoyed all of her films. This one came out on cable television in 1984.It's a simple coming of age story about 2 young people who find love with each other through a series of misadventures.A pretty good cast.I saw Blue Lagoon.I was not impressed with it.I liked this movie much better.I've seen it several times and loved it.

Can't remember exactly when this movie came out, but the premis of the movie is this in a nutshell; "Blue Lagoon" made over BUT with a twist. This movie is great if you like either of the "main" actor/actress.. Willie Aames and Phobe Cates. I think this was done after "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" but don't quote me on that. Not Oscar material for the over-all movie but Phobe Cates "naked" sure don't hurt the eye's any!
