Amazon.com Families come in many different shapes and sizes, but few humans consider rodents members of the family. Dave Seville (Jason Lee) is no exception, so when this flailing musician finds three young talking chipmunks gorging themselves in his kitchen cupboards, Dave is quick to question his sanity and then toss the offending chipmunks outside into the rain and restore order. When Dave hears the chipmunks singing outside his window, he realizes that that unusual trio might just be the world's next vocal sensation and he strikes a bargain with them--the chipmunks can stay with him if they sing his songs. While chipmunks Alvin (Justin Long), Theodore (Jesse McCartney), and Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler) quickly begin to see Dave as a father figure, it's strictly a business arrangement for Dave and he maintains an appropriate emotional distance. Dave's frustration with the chipmunks mounts as they unwittingly wreak havoc on his personal life, but when Dave's old friend and record label mogul Ian (David Cross) begins to exploit the chipmunks for personal gain, Dave suddenly realizes what an important part of his life, and indeed his family, the three chipmunks have become. Hilarity reins in this live action/CGI comedy with many memorable scenes--think chipmunks showering in the dishwasher, riding in remote control planes, and bouncing off the walls under the influence of a serious caffeine buzz. Catchy Chipmunks' songs both new and old promise to lodge themselves in the minds of viewers long after the credits roll and even those none-too-enchanted with the premise of singing chipmunks can't help but be entertained by this comical film. (Ages 6 and older with parental guidance due to mild rude humor) --Tami Horiuchi

fond memories January 8, 2009 Used to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks when I was younger. Took my nieces to see this and now they are fans. Good family entertainment.
Family Friendly January 7, 2009 What a cute movie! Crystal clear in Blu-ray. Your family will love watching this movie together (now tell me, how many films can you say that about today?).
Probably in the minority on this one... January 7, 2009 When this movies came out last year I had a conversation with my mom like this about what movie to see:
Me: Mom what movie do you want you see?
Mom: Anything BUT Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Me: Why?
Mom: Because it looks really stupid and I refuse to go see it!
Well after two days of nagging my mom (mind you I was 22yrs at the time) I finally convinced her to go see it with me. We probably were the oldest people to go and see it voluntarily because mostly children under the age of twelve were there with their parents. By the end of the movie my mom still didn't like it, but admitted it probably wasn't as bad as she thought it was going to be. As for me, I LOVED IT!!!
I ended up buying it and my best friend that I live with has a one year old baby and it is one of his favorite movies so it works out really well even though his mom is annoyed by it for the most part.
I am not sure if I love it because I have fond memories of watching the 1908's incarnation the of the Chipmunks or because I love music or both... Either way I thought that they very accurately represented what the television show was about: Family. Even though it is about a man raising three chipmunks, it is really just about a single man taking in three orphans and learning to love them as his own. The great thing about the movie is that it also plays very well on the perils of fame and how hard the entertainment industry is on children. On top of that has great music and a great sense of humor.
Granted, many adults like my friends and mother, will find this movie to be very obnoxious, but if you have children or are a kid at heart, you need to get this movie!!! Jason Lee does a wonderful job as Dave, and David Cross is hilarious as Dave's record industry mogel friend Ian. Yes, its juvenile, yes its silly, and yes its absoutely %100 percent ridiculous, but it is also great entertainment.
God Bless ~Amy
Cool January 2, 2009 I brought this movie for my 8yr old son. He can't get enough of this movie..
Watched it over and over December 28, 2008 This is a really cute movie, my family has watched it over and over again. This is one of those movies that you just can't go wrong with.
