Great buy for Twilight fans September 4, 2008 This is wonderful for fans of the Twilight Zone if you know you already like this show. My friend got me into it, and though I'm not the hugest fan, I still really enjoy watching these. I wish there were more quality programs on TV these days like this. The only thing I didn't really like is that when you play the dvd, it plays one episode at a time (unless it's just my dvd player) and doesn't continue to play each episode. I didn't like this because I love to watch TZ at night time; I find it calming to fall asleep too. Of course I also like to watch them when I'm wide awake. Overall it's a great deal compared to buying each dvd or season seperately.
The Twilight Zone (complete series) August 8, 2008 We watched the Twilight Zone as kids and this brought back so many memories growing up! You, too will enjoy remembering all the stories!
New reviewer...sorry if not elegant August 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This was an extravagant purchase for me, but I'm extremely happy with the collection. My only disappointment (and this is minor) is that I haven't found a way to play the discs where I can watch all episodes on a disc one after another. I have to get into the main menu after each single episode. I also purchased the "companion book" for something like $11 or $12 which is also brilliant. If you're an afficianado, become familiar with www.wikipedia.org and www.imdb.com, as both sites seem to have great background about each of the episodes and they list actors that were not included in the credits. I originally watched these episodes as a pre-teen and early-teen. Watching them again as an adult gives me an appreciation of just how brilliant Rod Serling and his writes and actors were. There are 28 DVD's in the set, so you can spend alot of time pleasantly getting 'lost'. If you're a Twilight Zone junkie and can spare the $180 or so, you definitely won't be disappointed.
A TV show for the Ages! July 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
"The Twilight Zone" quite simply put, is the best TV show ever made! Rod Serling's masterpiece came in a time when quality came before quantity, and before special effects. It came in a time when morals still meant something. The writing was perfect, the casting superb, and the feeling that each episode left you with was and still is timeless. It is a true testament to the show that it still airs in syndication today. Every fourth of July and New Years, the marathons still air. It is safe to say that "The Twilight Zone" will last forever, and not just in the backs of our minds, or an old dusty shelf, but at the forefront of our movie collections. The "Complete Definitive Edition" DVD set is wonderful, both for the money and for the convenience of having the set all in one piece. The casing doesn't leave much to be desired. The book format works really well, each of the five housing an entire season. Once the discs have been popped out one, they are easy to get out time after time. The plastic is just a little rigid to begin with. Each season comes with a pull-out guide, showing what episodes are on each disc. Something the consumers don't get with this complete set is "The Twilight Zone Companion" that originally came with season 1. That can be picked up for a mere $6.99 on Amazon, and comes highly recommended from this reviewer. All in all, this is very much worth the money. I picked it up for $186.99, but I have seen it for as low as $149.99. Either way, this is worth every penny.
Beware: The chapter thumbnails give away the twists! July 30, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
For those who are already familiar with the TZ episodes, the content on these DVDs is top-notch.
However, there is one unforgivable problem with the DVDs: they give away the plot twists! When you go to play an episode, you are taken to a scene/chapter selector. There are always four points you can jump to. Each of the four has a conveniently large thumbnail and the chapter title. The problem is, the third scene always depicts the climax of the episode! (The fourth scene is Rod's epilogue.) Now, unless you are consciously averting your eyes, you will likely catch an unwitting glimpse of the pic or chapter name of the third scene while you try to actually start playing the title. In many episodes, this is enough to take away the "surprise". In some episodes, like "Invaders", "To Serve Man", or "The Dummy", this is particularly bad. These DVDs are still a must-have for any fan -- but those who aren't already familiar with all the episodes are warned to be careful with the scene selection page!
