Product Description beware of the dwarf whispers the hitchhiker to the beautiful librarian as he dies midway through a moive. Amazon.com Not short on murder, mayhem, or any other screwball '70s conventions, Foul Play is a wonderful vehicle for Goldie Hawn. She plays Gloria, a librarian "ready to take a chance again," who ends up the target of an assassination ring. Chevy Chase, fresh off of Saturday Night Live, does the closest thing to real acting he would ever achieve (okay, maybe Fletch) as Tony, the cop assigned to protect Gloria. Dudley Moore made an indelible impression on American audiences as Stanley Tibbets, a surprisingly kinky symphony conductor. But it's the quirky things that make this film: the grandmothers playing Scrabble with expletives, Burgess Meredith's snake Esme, the old Japanese couple in the back of the careening limo. From the opening credits with Barry Manilow crooning the title song, this is a fond trip down memory lane. --Keith Simanton

Great Movie November 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have seen this movie several times and I still laugh as if I'm seeing it for the first time. The movie was sent in a timely fashion and in excellent condition. No skips or scratches. TWO thumbs up!!
Great 70s comedy & Excellent Anamorphic transfer to DVD August 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This review pertains to the 2004 "Widescreen Collection" release of 'Foul Play'. I was amazed at how great this 1978 comedy looks on DVD! Anamorphic widescreen that is enhanced for 16x9 aspect ratio TVs--the crystal-clear images fill the entire screen--no black bars anywhere. Colors are rich and natural and on my high-defintion, large-screen TV system (with a Toshiba 1080p HD DVD player) with surround sound, the movie looked and sounded almost like a high defintion DVD. The sound is also great--you will not be disappointed with either the picture or sound quality.
I haven't seen this movie since it was first released and I found it just as offbeat and funny as when I first saw it. Great cast, clean (rated PG) and filled with some great pacific coast-San Francisco scenery. Another reviewer criticized Barry Manilow's "Ready to Take a Chance" theme song--I thought this was a great beginning--I like Manilow's music--and the breathtaking scenery along that winding Pacific coast highway! Highly recommended!
An Enjoyable Comedy Caper! Who Says All Murder-Mysteries Have To Be Dead Serious??!! July 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Foul Play made its debut in the theater exactly 30 years ago today, July 24, 1978. I still hadn't quite arrived on the scene just yet, but I wish I had been because I sure would've loved having had the privilige of seeing this little gem of 70's cinema on the big screen! Still a very funny comedy/thriller with really good performances from Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase. Filled with great one-liners, classic quotes, sight gags (watch for the scene with the two old ladies playing Scrabble) and the best high-speed car race through the streets of San Francisco since Bullitt, ten years before. Also features an unforgetably hilarious recurring bit part from Dudley Moore as Stanley Tibbits. This one is a real treat so be sure to give it a look!
Foul Play July 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great film, it has a little of everything murder, suspense, thrills and of course comedy. Goldie Hawn is very good as the librarian that is duped into a series of thrilling events. Burgess Meredith is a hoot as her over protective landlord with a hint of "super spy" ability. Chevy Chase is a big surprise as the police detective that comes to her rescue " With his comic ability and charm". Oh did I forget to mention it also has romance. Five Stars!!!!!! I cant wait to get it on HD, It looks great if plaid on a blu ray or HD DVD Player as is but should be in HD.
All's fun in Foul Play April 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Foul Play is good laugh with some suspense and fair bit of Fun. Chevy Chase' first role and it cemented his career. Possibly a bit dated but every bit enjoyable. Dudley Moore is hilarious and the Villians are all suitably sinister. Watch for the Martial Arts fight with Burgess Meredith and Rachel Roberts (she's one tough mumma). Oh and Goldie is as cute as always !!
