Amazon.com The three-day Woodstock music festival in 1969 was the pivotal event of the 1960s peace movement, and this landmark concert film is the definitive record of that milestone of rock roll history. It's more than a chronicle of the hippie movement, however; this is a film of genuine historical and social importance, capturing the spirit of America in transition, when the Vietnam War was at its peak and antiwar protest was fully expressed through the liberating music of the time. With a brilliant crew at his disposal (including a young editor named Martin Scorsese), director Michael Wadleigh worked with over 300 hours of footage to create his original 225-minute director's cut, which was cut by 40 minutes for the film's release in 1970. Eight previously edited segments were restored in 1994, and the original director's cut of Woodstock is now the version most commonly available on videotape and DVD. The film deservedly won the Academy Award for Best Documentary, and it's still a stunning achievement. Abundant footage taken among the massive crowd ("half a million strong") expresses the human heart of the event, from skinny-dipping hippies to accidental overdoses, to unpredictable weather, midconcert childbirth, and the thoughtful (or just plain rambling) reflections of the festive participants. Then, of course, there is the music--a nonstop parade of rock roll from the greatest performers of the period, including Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Canned Heat, The Who, Richie Havens, Joan Baez, Ten Years After, Sly The Family Stone, Santana, and many more. Watching this ambitious film, as the saying goes, is the next best thing to being there--it's a time-travel journey to that once-in-a-lifetime event. --emJeff Shannon/em pstrongProduct Description/strongbr /1969 was a year unlike any other. Man first set foot on the moon. The New York Mets won the World Series against all odds. And for three days in the rural town of Bethel, New York, half a million people experienced the single most defining moment of their generation; a concert unprecedented in scope and influence, a coming together of people from all walks of life with a single common goal: Peace and music. They called it Woodstock. One year later, a landmark Oscar®-winning documentary captured the essence of the music, the electricity of the performances, and the experience of those who lived it. Newly remastered, the film features legendary performances by 17 best selling artists. br //p pspan class="h1"strongStills from emWoodstock: 3 Days of Peace Music Director's Cut/em/strong/spanspan class="h1"strong/strong/span table border="0" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="4" width="100%" p/p p/p tbody tr align="center" valign="top" tdaimg src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/warner/woodstock_1sm.jpg" //td tdimg src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/warner/woodstock_2sm.jpg" //td tdimg src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/warner/woodstock_3sm.jpg" //td /tr tr align="center" valign="top" tdimg src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/warner/woodstock_4sm.jpg" style="float: right;" //td td style="width: 100px;"br / /td tdimg src="http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/dvd/warner/woodstock_5sm.jpg" style="float: left;" //td /tr /tbody /table /p

Nice but.... February 28, 2010 NathanBrazil (Texas USA) This is a very nice edition of the woodstock film. I'm not at all sure that the Blu-ray version is any better than the normal DVD. I have both and just don't see that it is worth the extra cost.
The Original Revisited February 8, 2010 Sasicin This was given to a friend that was at the original Woodstock, not only did he say the was the best gift he ever received he said it sounded like he was back at the farm. The quality and content was very well done and well worth the money.
Satisfied Shopper February 6, 2010 Ann M. Teodorczy The Woodstock 40th Anniversary 3 disc dvd set was a Christmas gift for my sister. I had shopped every where looking for it but the prices were sky high. It was less than 2 weeks before Christmas when I went on Amazon and found it for a great price. I was afraid I wouldn't receive it in time but it came in the mail less than a week after I placed my order!!! The item was in perfect condition!! The shopping experience was 100% satisfactory and my sister loves it!!
Excellent January 1, 2010 Bill Shirer (Dallas, Texas United States) There is nothing that I can add to the various positive reviews that have been done. This is an excellent selection. The music selections were great, and the documentary footage was informative. I wish there were more.

br /I don't know why this item has been discontinued. I would have purchased it on Amazon had it been available, but I saw it at Blockbuster video for $45 and purchased it there.
3 days of peace and music December 28, 2009 Howard (Virginia) Thank you Amazon for the easy processing and fast shipment of my Ultimate Collector's Edition WOODSTOCK order. My wife and I have really enjoyed our purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking to purchase it. PLEASE be aware though, if the DVD you are purchasing says Blu-ray Disc it will not play on a standard DVD Disk Player or Computer. When I purchased this item I did not know this and was in the process of returning it to Amazon. I decided not to return it and purchased a Blu-ray Disk Player, I made a good choice.
