Don't change your regular routine November 29, 2008 I normally use Leslie Sanson's "Walk Away the Pounds" for about 30 minutes of light-moderate exercise. When I got pregnant, I thought it might be a good idea to switch to a workout specifically geared towards pregnancy. While it's certainly worth assessing your current workout to make sure it is safe, this one wasn't worth the money. I went back to "Walk Away the Pounds" after one workout with this video! They are very similar workouts in terms of length and muscle groups, but I find that Austin doesn't give very good instruction as to what she's doing - she just changes to a new routine all of a sudden and you're left trying to figure out the steps. If you already have a good active walking workout, continue doing that. If you're looking to add a good pregnancy-specific exercise routine, I really enjoyed the Tracey Mallett "3 in 1 Pregnancy Workout" as she incorporates pilates and yoga, but goes over what limitations you want to use if you're expecting. Happy exercising!
Feel good well rounded workout October 29, 2008 I received three pregnancy workouts in the mail today. Two were yoga ones and the other was this Denise Austin DVD. I'm not in great shape, but before I got pregnant (and super ill) I would run about 3 miles a week. Yoga for your pregnancy with Kristen Eykel had a lot of poses that looked so uncomfortable I wouldn't even try it. I hated it! Prenatal Yoga with Shiva Rea was much better, but neither one felt like a workout. Denise Austin's DVD not only got me sweating, but I felt my breathing open up, and she got in a lot of good stretching and toning. Plus you can customize your workout. I chose the 5 minute breathing and kegels, 20 minute cardio workout, and then 20 minute 2nd trimester toning, and it just plays those selections for me in a row, so I don't have to find the remote and manuver the menu repeatedly. All together 45 minutes for the workout I chose. Plus, I like her upbeat attitude. I don't think she's annoying at all. All those yoga people who talk so spiritual and mystical, and say things that make no sense put me to sleep. I like yoga but most of the time when they say things like, "Feel your pelvis open up..." or whatever I have no idea what they're talking about. I'm just in it for the stretching. Denise really made me smile, which I don't do when I workout normally. And she talks about the good you are doing so positively that I believed it and really did feel great and happy when I was done. Loved it!
Denise is awesome! October 29, 2008 I'm just meeting Denise for the first time in this video and i think she's great! there really isn't anything disturbing about her voice or the background music, she's just fabulous.
Great workout during pregnancy October 1, 2008 Once I purchased the video, which was during my fourth month, I used it every day. I liked the workouts on the DVD because they were challenging, but not too difficult where I would get discouraged. I have other Denise videos, but I found this to be one of her best. I am going to use the video to get back into shape after just having my baby. It is worth trying the video.
A little irritating, BUT... September 16, 2008 She's a little too chipper for those of us that are not the "glowing" pregnant, but instead the pukey, grumpy pregnant! That being said the exercises are totally workable for pregnancy. Her cuing on left/right could be a little clearer, but the exercises do provide for a range of abilities...you can add weights or increase/decrease the intensity as needed for your particular level. Some of the aerobic sequences can be a little repetitive, but it is nice and contained time wise which is great. I only have the energy for 20 minutes or so at a time anyway! Overall not a bad buy!
