Should be retitled GMAT 700 January 6, 2009 I agree with the reviewer who says this book should be called GMAT 650-700. I was scoring in the low 700s before I got this book and found it to be a big waste of time. There are some hard 700-800 range questions, but the vast majority (like 80%) are not. I wasted a week on this book when I could've spent just a couple hours on the difficult questions, had I known which ones they were in advance. If you are shooting for 800, not 700, you're better off working off of the last questions in the Official Guide (these are purportedly the most difficult), trying out difficult math problems posted in GMAT forums and, as I did, working on your problem areas with the Manhattan GMAT quant guides. I scored a 51 on quant on the real GMAT, thanks to the Manhattan guides, NO thanks to Kaplan GMAT 800!
Improved my score by 50 pts December 19, 2008 Great book to use in conjunction with a more introductory study guide. If you want to score 700+, definitely invest in this book!
Extra tough workout, very helpful December 18, 2008 I first read the book Kaplan GMAT Premier Program, performing the exercises included. As a result, my practice scores increased to an average of about 85% correct, but I simply could not get them any higher. However, the GMAT 800 book allowed me to ace those extra-hard questions I simply could not figure out before. The majority of the questions really do seem like a breeze now.
Not good December 9, 2008 Not at all a good use of time. A good example of this is how they have one question per reading comprehension passage. There are many other examples of inefficiency. Overall, just not a very useful or effective book.
I've used many different books for gmat preparation and the Kaplan books have been by far the worst. Kaplan's flagship book for the test, the Premier Program 2009, is absolutely terrible - I've never read any book of any kind with as many errors and typos. The problem with the gmat 800 book is not rampant erros and mistakes but a general lack of helpfulness. Unfortunely, Kaplan has really gone down hill.
Good for small tips and tricks... November 28, 2008 This is definitely worth the money before you take the test! You will learn a lot of small tips and tricks, and the verbal section will help you (more than the math section). Make sure you read the essay and verbal section carefully and get everything you can out of it. While this book is not perfect, you should probably invest the money before you take the test.
Good Luck!
