Product Description This is a bestselling picture book from the creator of "Maisy" - brought to life with an animated DVD! "Then the animals came, two by two...two by two...into the ark..." There have been numerous picture-book versions of the Old Testament tale of Noah and his ark, but none as simply told and boldly illustrated for young children as this rainbow-filled version by Lucy Cousins. Offering a whole new storytelling experience, this picture book and DVD edition features a charming story animation, narrated by Adjoa Andoh ("Casualty", "Doctor Who").

Good for animals, not for theology! June 13, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
While my son (2.5) loves the pictures in this book, the theology drives me crazy. I can handle the "wicked people" mentioned by others although I wonder what my little guy thinks. The thing that drives me nuts is the fact that the redemptive rainbow at the end of the story, which means God will not do this again, is missing! A good book for learning about animals, but not for learning about God.
A wonderful Noah's Ark---especially for Maisy Lovers! March 12, 2006 I would not have happened upon this book had my daughter not gotten so into Lucy Cousin's character Maisy, and I am very glad I did! It's a wonderful version of Noah's Ark. The animals are so distinct and cool to look at, with lots included you don't usually see, like snakes, worms, butterflies, etc! My version had great endpapers full of many of the animals that were on the ark, and my daughter can spend long periods of time just looking at those. The story is very simple and easy to understand, but doesn't leave out the basic point of the people on earth being evil---not that I want to emphasize that point to a toddler, but the whole tale doesn't make a lot of sense when you read versions that don't say WHY God is flooding the earth! Just a terrific book!
Great...if you don't have issues with "WICKED" February 27, 2006 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I wanted to buy this book as a baptism gift for a friend - very fitting, I thought. And as the other reviews say, this is indeed a very cute book. HOWEVER, I returned it after reading it and will not be purchasing it again. The book starts out "A long time ago there lives a man called Noah. Noah was a good man, who trusted in God." (So far so good, now turn the page.) "There were also many wicked people in the world. God wanted to punish the wicked people, so he said to Noah...'I shall make a flood of water and wash all the wicked people away. Build an ark for your family and all the animals.'" I think the use of the word "wicked" is a bit too strong. While the rest of the book is very cute with cute drawings of animals, etc., this page and use of this word really just made me cringe. If another word was chosen that was not as strong as "wicked" or if they'd left out that second page entirely, I would have kept it and been very happy with it. It's just too bad that I can't remove that one page without it being noticable...
Bright, simple pictures, good for young children October 18, 2005 This is a good board book version of Noah's Ark by the "Maisy" author/illustrator. Simplified enough for young children, but well written. My only complaint is that the rainbow, which is pictured, is not talked about in the narrative. However, I looked at a lot of versions of this tale and like this one best for toddlers.
Great Re-Telling of the Story of Noah for Kids February 11, 2004 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
First, if you are neither Jewish nor Christian you may not care for this book. It is a retelling of the story of Noah from the Book of Genesis, told in such a way as to appeal to children. Having said that, this might well be Ms. Cousins' best work. Her art style is simple but colorful, and if you doubt she truly has an art style consider this: her art is always instantly recognizable. Both myself and my children can spot a Cousins' book from a mile away. To her credit, Cousins doesn't dwell on some of the more somber aspects of the story, i.e., that all but a few members of mankind are to wiped out by the flood. Rather she focuses on the positive aspects of the story-that God choose to allow some small remnant of mankind and the animal kingdom to continue, with a renewed hope that perhaps man would get it right the second time around. The art is colorful and my children spend quite a bit of time trying to identify the various animals. We've identified all of them except for a few insects, so if you happen to figure out all of the bugs, let us know. This book is a great introduction to the Bible for small children. If only everyone trying to introduce children to the Bible could do so as wonderfully as Ms. Cousins.
