5 out of 5 stars Cool book   December 24, 2008
I think that this book is very helpful for anyone, who is preparing for GMAT. Very simple language, but at the same time real assignments upgrading your skills.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed in Kaplan   December 13, 2008
I was extremely disappointed in the GMAT Premier Program 2009 Edition.
As noted in other reviews there were numerous errors in the Math review section. The content they offer online is almost identical to the questions listed in the book (for the Data Sufficiency problems, 4 of the 5 questions online were the same as in the book). The online syllabus is useless. They include fields for you to monitor your progress, but they fail things as simple as having the chapters numbered correctly.
After practice tests in the book the first piece of advice Kaplan gives if you missed several questions is to buy another Kaplan book.
The CD-ROM is not Mac-compatible.
I've used Kaplan materials in the past for SAT prep and found them incredibly helpful, I'm baffled they would release a study guide as poorly put together as this one.

1 out of 5 stars Quantitative out of date and ridden with print errors   December 13, 2008
I took the exam in 1986, then again this past year. I used the Kaplan Review back in 1986 so I figured this would be the best study guide for me to use now.

While the verbal section of this book had some good tips, the quantitative sections were completely out of date. In fact, I thought to myself during my preparation how much the GMAT has not changed in terms of quantitative content. Unfortunately, the GMAT exam content HAS changed, but the Kaplan method has not. For example, in one answer tip it advised the reader to consider skipping the question and coming back to it later. The GMAT exam is computer-based and does not allow test-takers to skip a question.

One reason I chose this book is because it included a math review section for those of us who haven't looked at things like the volume of a cube, and the properties of a right triangle for several years. This section is RIDDLED with print errors. Often times, an algebraic equation being solved would simply skip over an important step in the book. After a while I began marking the number of print errors I found and it is atrocious.

Don't waste your money -- there are other study guide books for the GMAT. Let Stanley Kaplan continue to live a couple of decades behind the times by himself.

1 out of 5 stars Fine if you don't really want to get into that Business program of your dreams   December 8, 2008

Ugh, Worst. Study guide. Ever. Here's why...

I've started studying on the Math portion of the book first because I know it'll take me longer to retain it, but there are so many errors in the study guide that it just confuses me and makes me second guess myself. NOT what you want in your study manual!!

So far, I've been through about 40 pages of the math section and have discovered 9 errors. Sometimes it may be them leaving out pertinent information for a question, sometimes the wrong symbol is used (ie: 1/2 x 30(x=32)=870 ,no, really that's straight from page 339), Sometimes the answers won't match the question because the problem was typed out incorrectly, and I'm no math whiz, but I'm pretty sure that they have a wrong answer in the answers section.

Another annoyance is that in their practice questions, they'll ask questions to skills that they've not yet covered in the review. But most of the time they just assume that you still remember formulas from your High school days and (something they could have easily listed in the section) and then they place questions on it in the practice areas. Well, how the smurf are you supposed to figure out that a trapezoids formula for area is 1/2 x height(base1 + base2) if they don't tell you? It makes for a very frustrating study experience.

My intention is to write Kaplan about this, because it was a huge waste of money (especially at full retail, since I didn't buy here on Amazon) and has been a waste of time. How can you trust them to sucessfully take you through the review you need for such a test, if they can't even get simple things like + and = signs in the right places?

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!

1 out of 5 stars Littered with errors, typos, and conflicting statements   December 2, 2008
I purchased this book at the book store about a month ago. I made my decision after paging through many of the GMAT options and deciding this appeared the most comprehensive. My perception at the time that Kaplan was a high quality company also factored into my choosing it. After all, when I was in high school, Kaplan had the best reputation of all the test preparation companies. I was shocked by how bad this book is once I began working through it. The book is littered with typos, conceptual errors (no joke!), and conflicting statements. This book has caused me confusion, wasted time, and considerable frustration (both with the book and Kaplan itself). I have used a lot of different test prep books in the past and this was by far the worst.

Another bad part is that when I asked for my money back they refused to give it because I don't have the receipt. I explained that I didn't keep the receipt because I knew I'd be writing in it and highlighting, etc; and there is no way that I could anticipate that a reputable company would put out a book of such low quality. This did not help. They explained that even if I still had the receipt there would have been a process for me to try to get any money back, that I would not be able to get all of my money back, and that I would additionally have to pay shipping and handling to send it to them.

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK - it is the worst test prep book I have ever used, and I've used over 10 for various tests over the years. What Kaplan has done by selling this book and continuing to sell it is borderline theft (considering that people like me have reported the countless errors, inconsistencies, miss-statements, etc). Kaplan continues to market and sell what it knows is a terrible and flawed product to unknowing and unassuming students. The only people who could have possibly given this book a 4 or 5 star review are either working for Kaplan or did not read the book carefully (especially the math section - which is almost half the book).
