The British sitcom The Office has the most devoted following this side of Monty Python, so an American remake seemed doomed. Amazingly, the remake actually finds its own enjoyable version of the original's uncanny comedy of embarrassment. Office manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell, The Daily Show, The 40 Year-Old Virgin) believes he's the beloved leader of the Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch of a paper products company--but his relentless and painfully forced efforts at comedy creep out everyone around him, including paranoid Dwight (Rainn Wilson, who had a memorable recurring role on Six Feet Under), nervous receptionist Pam (Jenna Fischer, LolliLove), and aimless salesman Jim (John Krasinski, A New Wave), who's smitten with the already engaged Pam. The pilot episode suffers from closely replicating the British pilot, but after that The Office finds its own footing, turning diversity training, an office birthday party, and a basketball game into excruciating yet hypnotically funny rituals of humiliation. Carell, though clearly talented, can't match Ricky Gervais' unique performance as the aggressively needy British manager (it's hard to imagine that anyone could); as a result, the supporting roles become more prominent, and Wilson, Fischer, and Krasinski quickly create a rapport that matches and may even exceed that of their British counterparts. Be sure to watch the deleted scenes; remarkably, they're as good as the material that made it on the air in this six-episode season. --Bret Fetzer

4 out of 5 stars Hillarious   November 23, 2008
Awesome show. Love the product. Six episodes should NOT cost this much. But it's good to have it.

1 out of 5 stars Depressive show   November 21, 2008
It is the most depressive and unpleasant show I have ever seen in my life. I've caught myself turning my face off the TV.. It is about cocaine-boosted idiot that runs a small office of several fully suppressed individuals. All I feel about these people is sincere sorry - this show calls no smile on my face, not even speaking of laugh or joy. They are trying to pick up on some office stereotypes and insanities but they go so far that it feels more like a clinic... Not recommended at all.

5 out of 5 stars Great shape   November 17, 2008
I was nervous to purchase a used DVD, but it was in great shape! Thanks

5 out of 5 stars The funniest show   November 8, 2008
I am addicted to this show, very rarely something on TV would made me laugh that much. The show main character is the manager "Michael" which is a loser, racist, rude person with a serious personality disorder. of-course because he is the manager no one could tell him anything. He thinks the employees likes him and consider him as their friend. The funny part is when the employee wants to focus and do their job but their manager distracts them, I remember an episode where Michael starts popping popcorn and telling us the audience how Monday morning could be depressing and thats why he created the movie day where all the employees gather and watch a movie and eat popcorn during office hours!!

4 out of 5 stars Great First Season.   September 30, 2008
Okay, so many people complain that the first season is only 6 episodes long. Well, get over it! As for almost any other show, the first season can be a little hard to get into, given that you are just getting to know the characters. I think that the writers did a great job in introducing the characters and sub-plots in these few episodes, and makes all of the other seasons even more enjoyable.
