Lowest Quality History of World War II Available August 27, 2008 This is without a doubt the worst set of materials available. A patchwork of period films mixed with newsreels over dubbed with tacky, dramatic music.
Many minutes of the *SAME FOOTAGE* is presented over and over again!
You've been given a fair warning. This is a waste of money. Move along, folks, there's nothing to see here.
Nice addition to any collection April 9, 2007 I really like this box set... And I'm not sure why!
As another reviewer noted, the first two hours are wonderful, while the remaining hours are newsreel footage. The newsreel footage is however a mix of some of the better issues of the day, and the narrator overdubs the newsreel soundtrack with interesting input in areas where the original sound track/narrator faltered.
The narrator (Joseph Brutsman) is a big part of the appeal of this box set. His respectful and introspective tone is a refreshing change from the staccato angry style of the past. Even the theme music is poignant and reflective, lingering in your brain as you ponder the immensity of the struggle the world went through.
A very nice box set to add to any collection, and the price can't be beat.

Not that great... March 4, 2006 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
This 6 disc set (10 episodes) starts out well -- the first two hours are good, with a narrator, footage, and interviews. You know, the stuff you expect to see in a documentary. After that, the producers apparently ran out of money and/or effort, because the rest of the discs are lame. Most of them are just old news reels slapped together. Not that the newsreels themselves aren't interesting or appropriate, but there is nothing else there. No commentary, no narration, no interviews. By the time google puts the national archives footage on-line you can see the same thing for free.
